Mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Nova

The Santa Clara-a-Nova Convent, popularly referred to as the Monastery of Queen Santa Isabel, the patron saint of Coimbra, was erected in the 17th century to replace the old medieval monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha, victim of periodic flooding of the Mondego River. It is an important repository of Portuguese art from the 14th to the 18th centuries and houses the remains of Queen Santa Isabel, founder of the original monastery.
